A vehicle catches fire Thursday evening dangerously close to gas pumps outside a South Salina convenience store.
Crews were called to the Snak Attak convenience store at 1619 West Magnolia to the report of a vehicle fire. First responders found a truck fully engulfed near the gas pumps.
Salina Fire Marshal Roger Williams tells KSAL News that the fire was quickly extinguished. Williams says the fire did not ignite the nearby gas pumps. He says that there is an emergency shutoff to the pumps, both outside and inside the store. And he adds that there was not major danger of an explosion. He says that there is very little gas in the pumps, but rather most of it is underground and is well protected by several safety features.
The truck is a total loss, and there was damage to a nearby pump and canopy.
Williams says that there were no injuries.
