The Kansas Highway Patrol says an 8-year-old girl died when an all-terrain vehicle she was riding on crashed in Republic County.

The patrol says Mary H. Horner, of Belleville, died Saturday night when the all-terrain vehicle crashed on a farm field access road a few miles northwest of Scandia.

The ATV was being driven by a 9-year-old Scandia girl, who was taken to a Belleville hospital. Her condition was not immediately available.

The patrol says the girls were riding the ATV when it rolled, ejecting both girls. Neither girl was wearing a helmet.
