Theora L. Phelps

Theora L. Phelps, 92, of Brookville, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the Pinnacle Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in Salina.

Theora was born on June 2, 1931 in Hunter, KS to the late Jerry E. and Grace G. (Dillett) Bolte. She graduated from Brookville High School and then from Marymount College.

She was united in marriage to Dallas B. Phelps on June 3, 1951. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 2018.

Theora began teaching in 1950 at Carneiro Grade School and taught there for 5 years before starting their family. She continued to substitute and get college hours while raising the boys. After Aaron was born she received her teaching degree in 1979 from Marymount College and began teaching in Salina, retiring from USD 305 in 1993.

She was also very active in her communities, volunteering for the Brookville United Methodist Church, Spring Creek Extension Unit, serving as Treasurer of the Spring Creek Township, volunteering for the SRS Commodities, Brookville Senior Citizens Groups and she enjoyed bowling with the Brookville Senior Citizens Group.

Theora enjoyed reading, sewing, baking, attending the Brookville United Methodist Church and visiting the Colorado Mountains, Branson, MO and the beautiful hills and pastures of Saline, Lincoln and Ellsworth counties.

She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband: Dallas; Son: Allen Phelps; Brothers: Ivan, Dale, Max and Johnny Bolte.

Theora is survived by Sons: Aaron (Darla) Phelps of Brookville, Andy Phelps of Dorrance, KS; Grandson: Tel Phelps and Granddaughter: Kiva (Matt) Jacobs both of Brookville; Great-Grandchildren: Kaislee and Caige Jacobs along with one on the way; Daughter-in-law: Anita Phelps of Brookville.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023 from 4- 6 PM at the Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel, Salina. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 10:30 AM in the Brookville United Methodist Church, Brookville. Interment will follow in the Brookville Cemetery.
