A Salina man is scammed over the phone.
According to Captain Mike Sweeney, a 26-year-old man received a phone call from a male with a middle eastern accent on Wednesday morning.
The caller claimed to be an IRS agent who told the victim they owed the government $1,100 for delinquent taxes.
The victim said he only had $300 – and the suspect said his fine would be forgiven if he sent the amount via a prepaid cash card.
The victim purchased a card at Walgreens on S. Broadway for $300 and gave the caller the access numbers.
Later that afternoon the Salina man had second thoughts about the transaction and contacted police.
Total loss is $300.
