Shirley A. Lang, 87, passed away April 27, 2023, at the Salina Presbyterian Manor. She was born March 18, 1936, in rural Republic County, Kansas, to Ernest and Amelia (Plucar) Chizek. Shirley grew up on the family farm with her two sisters, Violet (Garwood) and Marjorie (Walthers), attended Cuba schools, graduating from Cuba High School in 1954. Shirley attended Kansas State University.
Shirley was a longtime member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church. Shirley worked at Marymount College and retired from Saline County. After retirement, Shirley volunteered as an election worker and very much enjoyed volunteering at the Salina Regional Health Center. In 2019, Shirley moved to the Presbyterian Manor. Shirley loved her Sunrise Presbyterian and Presbyterian Manor communities.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (2013), and her sisters, Violet (Harry) Garwood and Marjorie (Dean) Walthers. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cheri (Kurt), of Sharon Springs KS/Phoenix area; two sons, Scott (Connie), of Salina, and Jay (Marnie), of Leawood; five grandchildren, Casey (Megan) Rhea, Keith (Ashlee) Rhea, Randi (Nick) Fouts and Emily and Charlie Lang; seven great-grandchildren, Lexi, Kendall, and Cadence Rhea, Kaylee and Braxton Rhea, Brinley and Reagan Fouts.
A visitation will be held on Thursday May 4th at Ryan Mortuary in Salina from 5-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday May 5th at 11 a.m. at Sunrise Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Deb Schmidt presiding. A short graveside service will be held at 2:30 at Bohemian National / Kopsa Cemetery in Cuba, KS, for friends and family in the Cuba area.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunrise Presbyterian Church or the Cuba Booster Club.
