Daniel Wayne Lockard, 85, departed peacefully in his home on the morning of June 29, 2023 after a long, brave fight against cancer. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a dedicated civil servant, a perfect gentleman.
He was born March 28, 1938, in Salina, Kansas to Wayne Lockard and Marjorie (McCall) Lockard. He graduated from Salina High School in 1956. He attended Kansas State College, served his country in the U.S. Army for two years, and graduated from Kansas State University in 1962.
Dan married Janet Kay Keeler, also of Salina, on June 9, 1963. Dan and Janet then moved to St. Louis, Missouri where they had 3 sons, Brentley, Cameron, and Aaron. The family moved to Vienna, Virginia in 1973.
He served his country again at Defense Mapping Agency, retiring after 34 years. In retirement, he and Janet traveled the world with friends, including Europe, Central America, and Africa. He lost Janet to cancer on January 31, 2012.
Dan is survived by his three sons, his grand-sons, Nicholas, and Ryan, his grand-daughters, Caitlin, Alexandra, and Sam, his sisters, Sheri Becker, and Susan Wright, Sheri’s daughters, Carrie, Tonya, and Kristine, Susan’s daughters, Dawn, Sara, and Samantha, Carrie’s son, Jason, and daughter, Danielle, and Dawn’s daughter, Erin.
A service was held on July 6 at the Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna for his friends and neighbors in Virginia. His ashes will be transported to the Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina, where there will be a service on September 5, after which Dan will be buried alongside his beloved Janet.
