Dr. Jack A. Favre passed away the morning of September 1, 2023, at his wife, Linda’s side. Jack was born on July 6, 1938, in Richmond, Indiana to James and Martha Favre. Several years later the family moved to Greens Fork, Indiana, where a young Jack helped his dad build them a new home. Jack worked at the Belden factory along with his dad for several years. In October of 1958 he enlisted in the Army. He spent much of his Army time in various countries of Europe. He left the Army in August of 1964.

After Jack left the Army, he enrolled at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Jack had always been artistic so he enrolled in the Fine Arts program. In June of 1970 he graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree. In August of 1971 he received his Master of Arts degree. While working on his Masters degree, he lived in the graduate dorm at Ball State. While there, he met Linda, a student working on her degree in Speech-Language. Linda became the love of his life. Instead of going through the graduation ceremony, Jack and Linda got married on August 14, 1971, at the Newman Center at Ball State.

Jack and Linda moved to Martinsburg, West Virginia, where they both got jobs with the school system. While there, their son Jerome was born. Jack taught art at two middle schools.  Jack wanted to get a higher degree so the family moved to Lubbock, Texas, where Jack enrolled at Texas Tech. While in Texas, Jennifer and Jon were born. On May 15, 1981, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Fine Arts degree. The family then moved to Salina, Kansas, where Jack became the Head of the Art Department at Kansas Wesleyan University. He taught all art mediums. Jack and Linda bought a 100-year-old house and, over the years, they renovated most of the house. Since Jack had helped his dad when he was a young man, he was skilled in the building arts.

All through the years, Jack continued to produce his own art. His specialty was photography and sculpture. He exhibited much of his art. He was also very active in his church life, singing in the choir, serving on the vestry, and helping with physical improvements to the cathedral.

Later in life, Jack and Linda sold their home and moved to independent living. On August 14, 2023, Jack and Linda celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Jack was able to enjoy the company of his wife, Linda, his children and grandchildren, and friends and neighbors at his home until his death.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dolly. He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Jerome Favre of Los Angeles; daughter, Jennifer Higgins (Brian), of Hebron Nebraska; and son, Jon Favre (Lindsay), of Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by grandchildren Asher, Ava, London, Finlee, Rowan, and Tavish; and one brother, James, of Lynn, Indiana.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Cathedral, 138 S. 8th Street, Salina, Kansas, with a reception to immediately follow in the parish hall. Selections of Jack’s artwork will be on display at the reception.
