Sister Patricia Lewter

Sister Patricia Lewter died November 25, 2023, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS. She was 88 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 69 years. She was born in Las Cruces, NM, on April 25, 1935, to Perry and Rosemary Heep Lewter, the oldest of two children, and was baptized Patricia Louise. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 9, 1953. On March 18, 1954, Patricia received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Rose Helen, later changing back to her baptismal name. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1955 and final vows on March 19, 1958.

In 1967 Sister Patricia Lewter received her BA from Marymount in Biology; followed by a MA in Counseling in 1976 from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Chicago, IL; Kansas City, KS; Grand Island, NE; and in Plainville and Salina, KS. She was one of three sisters to open Manna House of Prayer in Clyde, KS. S. Patricia served as pastoral minister in Joplin, Web City and Neosho, MO; and Montrose, CO. In 1981 she co-established the nonprofit counseling center, Center for Enriched Communications in Grand Junction, CO. In May, 2018, Sister Patricia retired to the Motherhouse.

Sister Patricia Lewter was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one brother, Thomas Lewter. A Bible Vigil Service will be held November 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Agnes Irene Huser as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be November 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel, Father Barry Brinkman presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.
