To the delight of over 200 fans, the American League Champion Kansas City Royals rolled into Salina Thursday afternoon.
The Royals Caravan, which is again this year traveling to communities throughout the Midwest, stopped at the Central Mall for a meet and greet autograph session. Pitcher Brandon Finnegan, outfielder Lane Adams, Royals’ Hall of Famer Jeff Montgomery, and broadcaster Joel Goldberg were all on the trip.
A large crowd of over 150 was already gathered when the crew arrived, a few minutes late. The guys signed autographs, talked with fans, posed for a few photos, and even held a few babies.
The upcoming 2015 season is one of the most anticipated in Royals history, with nearly all of the key players returning from the team that made a magical run to the World Series.
Finnegan, one of the heroes of the thrilling comeback victory in the Wildcard game over the Oakland A’s that started the magical post season run, told KSAL News that it has been a wild off season. He said he has worked hard to prepare for the 2015 season. Finnegan said that he’d really like to be a starter, but would also be happy to have a bullpen spot on the roster. “Anything to help the team” he said.
Adams, who like Finnegan was called up to the big leagues in September, shared a similar sentiment. “I’ll do whatever it takes to be a part of this team” he said. Adams said he has really enjoyed the “rockstar treatment” they have received at each stop on the caravan.
Though the caravan was a little late getting started, it did not disappoint. The guys stayed until every person who arrived, well over 200, was able to go through the autograph line.
