Victor Marshall Montgomery

Victor Marshall Montgomery, a beloved soul and cherished brother, passed away on January 10, 2024, in Salina, Kansas. Born in Pecos, TX to Louis and Elnora Montgomery, on October 13, 1959, he was the 3rd of 8 children. Victor was 64 years old.

Growing up in Pecos, Victor was an extremely popular young man with many interests and talents. He excelled in music and was an accomplished bass guitarist, trombone and tuba player, as well as vocalist.

After graduating from Pecos High School in 1978, Victor attended Sul Ross State University, starting in the fall of 1978. After a few semesters, he decided that college was not his path. In 1979, Victor followed the path of many of his uncles and enlisted in the U.S. military, specifically the United States Marine Corp. He remained in the service, traveling the world, for over 13 years, and was honorably discharged in 1992, shortly after the ending of the gulf war.

Following his military career, Victor continued to serve his country, this time in the capacity of law enforcement. After attending the police academy in Pecos, TX, he served as a reserve officer for the Pecos Police Department. He then served as a deputy sheriff with the Ector County Sheriff’s Department. After several years of serving as a deputy sheriff, Victor went to work for the Federal Veterans Administration as a police officer in Big Springs, TX. He continued in this capacity until he retired, in part due to disabilities related to his military service.

Shortly after retirement, Victor relocated to Salina, Kansas, where he met and married his wife, Lea Speed, in 2010. They made a very happy home together and enjoyed attending concerts and sporting events. But most of all, they enjoyed each other’s company. Through their 14 years of togetherness, their time was primarily filled with taking care of one another, and their beloved pets.

Victor is preceded in glory by his parents, his sister Felicia Montgomery Cleburne, his nieces Teresa Montgomery and Ketrina Bell. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lea; his brothers, David, James and John; and sisters Tina, Anita and Alicia.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are his brothers and nephews.

Victor is profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to fill our hearts and thoughts with joy, laughter, and tears. It was our honor to have known and loved him. OORAH!!!!!!!!!
