Jacqueline “Jackie” House,

Jacqueline “Jackie” House, 89, of Wichita, beloved daughter, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandma, and friend, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the Ascension Via Christi Assisted Living, Wichita.

Jackie was born on August 25, 1935 in Bennington, Kansas to the late George and Viola (Richardson) Payne.

The family later moved to Salina when she was 8 with her younger sister Janet whom she adored and helped raise while her mother worked many hours. As a young girl she enjoyed Brownies, Girl Scouts, tap dance, ballet and aerobics. She learned to sew on a Treddle sewing machine at the age of 10 and continued being an avid seamstress throughout her life. She was a very outgoing busy girl.

Jackie met Leland House while attending Kansas Wesleyan where they both graduated. Jackie with high academic honors and Lee with football championships as the quarterback. They married on February 14, 1957 and soon after moved to Colorado with their first son, Doug. A few years later they had their daughter Brenda.

Jackie was busy substitute teaching and raising children. She was a wonderful, fun and loving mom and excelled at care giving. Jackie had many activities she enjoyed including water skiing, snow skiing, tennis, bridge, swimming, golf, singing in the choir, sewing, reading but she especially loved to sing and dance. One of her favorite memories was doing the choreography for the play “Hello Dolly” at the Wray High School in Wray, CO.

Several years later she was called to provide care and moved back to Salina in 1993 to care for her mother. She was devoted to her mother and did everything for her mother along with her sister Janet. They were wonderful daughters.

Jackie loved to collect dolls, cookbooks, making her own hats, the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, karaoke, and helping others. She loved life and had a strong personality all the while being a Christian.

Jackie is survived by: Daughter: Brenda Underhill and spouse Larry; Son: Doug House; Grandson: Hunter House, Sister: Janet Weis and spouse Larry; Nieces: Barbara and Pam; Nephew: Bruce, Many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 21, 2024, 10:00 AM at Ryan Mortuary in Salina, KS. Burial took place prior at Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina, KS.
