The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office is confirming a request to the Wichita Police Department to launch a criminal investigation into a Sedgwick County detective.

The detective in question was assigned to Internet Crimes Against Children section within the Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit.

The sheriff’s office says it started an administrative review that revealed improper case closures and a failure to thoroughly investigate criminal complaints between 2019 to 2024.
