George M. Vogts, 76, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025. He was born October 17, 1948, to Floyd and Jewell (Adamson) Vogts, in McPherson, Kansas. George graduated from Canton High School in 1966 and shortly thereafter, attended an area technical college where he completed his certificate in mechanics. George was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served from 1968 to 1970. After he returned, he married Melanie Hartl on September 29, 1972. They built their home together south of Canton, Kansas, where George farmed for over 50 years. George also spent time helping his community by serving on the USD #419 school board for 8 years. In his later years, George enjoyed driving bus and spending time with his family.
Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife of the home, Melanie; daughters, Lori Wilson (Darren), Lisa Queen and Lana Charvat; grandchildren, Alex (Emily), Morgan, and Hannah Queen, Adrie, Kalei, and Matthew Powell, and Josie Charvat; sister, Phylis Brucker; and brother, Leo Vogts (Roxie).
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in law and father-in-law, Luke, and Verlee Hartl; brothers-in-law, Bryce Brucker and L.J. Hartl; and son-in-law, Nicholas Charvat.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 702 S. 9th St., Salina, KS. A visitation will be held prior to the services at 10:00 a.m. with family present. The burial service will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, KS.
