A storm system that moved through the Midwest dropped heavy rai, hail, and tornadoes in Kansas.
The National Weather Service says the first tornado was confirmed around 5 p.m. Friday near the unincorporated community of Fairport, which is about 20 miles northeast of Hays. A tornado was also spotted near the small unincorporated town of Modoc in Wichita County, and several land spout type tornadoes were spotted in the Scott City area.
KSAL storm spotters observed a funnel, and a brief tornado, in rural Lincoln County.
The Russell County community of Lucas was pounded by hail, which was so thick in places that it looked like snow covering the ground . There were reports of damage, including broken windows, but no reports of injuries.
