Salina police urge caution as an 80-year-old couple finds themselves victims of a scam.
The couple was contacted just before noon on Wednesday by phone by whom they thought was their grandson. The caller stated that he was the grandson, had been in a car accident, was in jail and needed money to post bail. The couple sent a Moneygram promptly at 11:38AM of $1,759.50.
The caller rang again at 2:22 asking for yet more money. The Salina couple sent a second Moneygram for $1,734.
The couple received a third call, and sent over $1,746 before calling police to report the scam. The loss totals $5,239.50.
No arrests have been made, and the case remains under investigation.
