Rivalry Week at KWU

It’s rivalry week on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. The Coyotes, and their rivals the Bethany Swedes, square of in a couple of different competitions.

It started on Wednesday night on the KWU campus. To the delight of a raucous student body crowd that packed the north stands in Mabee Arena, the Coyote Volleyball Team swept the Swedes 25-15, 25-10, 25-21.  The victory bumped the Coyotes to a half-game ahead of idle Friends in the conference standings, two games back of conference leader Ottawa in the standings.

The rivalry shifts south on Saturday, where the nationally ranked Coyote football team will square off with a struggling Swede team. KWU (6-1 overall, 4-1 KCAC) visits rival Bethany (1-6 overall, 1-4 KCAC)  on Saturday in Lindsborg.

Kansas Wesleyan is ranked 19th in this week’s NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 poll. After snapping a four game losing streak and getting their first win back on October 3rd, the Swedes come into Saturday’s game with back-to-back losses.

Kickoff of the rivalry game is at 1:30pm, with pregame coverage at 1:20 on FM 104.9 and ksal.com.
