As of April 1, 2016, travelers will be able to board a plane at Salina Regional Airport and land in Denver to enjoy the Rocky Mountain Region – or choose among 185 nonstop flights to other destinations.
Tim Rogers, Executive Director Salina Airport Authority joined in on the KSAL Morning News Wednesday to announce that Great Lakes Airlines will begin operations this spring.
“It’s going to open up so many more opportunities for pleasure travel and business travel for area residents,” Roger said.
The move means connections to United Airlines, Delta Airlines and American Airlines at Denver International Airport.
Rogers said the schedule is still being finalized with plans for a morning flight out to Denver and an afternoon return flight into Salina.
“It’s free parking at the Salina Regional Airport then board a flight about an hour and twenty minutes nonstop to Denver. Then make your connections, or go onto your business or what you want to do in Colorado.”
Rogers told KSAL News that Great Lakes Airlines is based in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Denver and boasts a fleet of 30-seat turbo prop aircraft with a stand up cabin, flight attendant and lavatory on board.
Rogers added that in the coming days, Great Lakes Airlines officials will be in Salina to attend an Airport Authority Board meeting and will also be meeting with leaders at K-State Polytechnic’s professional pilot training program.
