Salina Police intercept a woman on her way to send $5,000 to a scam artist who had already cheated her out of $15,000.
Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that police were contacted by a family member of a woman in her 50’s who had been convinced by a scammer that she had done something criminally wrong.
The caller told the woman that he was an FBI agent and she would need to make payments to him – or police who were watching, would take her to jail.
Over the course of two days, the victim sent $15,205 to the scammer via 16 different wire transactions, and was on the way to wire another $5,000 payment when Salina Police officers contacted her.
