Kansas Wesleyan University has rewarded two employees with promotions to the position of Vice President.  According to the school, Mike Hermann and Bridget Weiser have both been promoted to VP.

Mike Hermann:

Mike Hermann, who has served Kansas Wesleyan University as director of athletics since 2013, was recently promoted to Vice President and Director of Athletics by President Matt Thompson. According to Thompson, the promotion is a recognition of Hermann’s multi-faceted service to the institution and reflects the important role that intercollegiate athletics plays at the institution. In addition to his role as director of athletics, he serves on the President’s Council and is the Core Competency Committee Chair for the Higher Learning Commission accreditation process.

“It’s been a great honor to serve as the director of athletics at Kansas Wesleyan for the past three years, and I truly appreciate the recognition that comes with the appointment as a vice president,” Hermann said. “Under Dr. Thompson’s leadership, the university has charted an exciting future, and it’s rewarding to be able to play a role in that process.”

Since joining KWU, Hermann has assisted with the fundraising and opening of the $7.5 million Graves Family Sports Complex project, organized the institution’s first Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, launched a coaches’ luncheon series, initiated three new athletic programs and promoted cheer and dance to varsity status. He has also negotiated an exclusive apparel relationship with NIKE, has worked to install a new scoreboard at Bissell Field and expanded the department’s fundraising. He expects to welcome more than 500 student-athletes to campus this fall, the most in program history.

During Hermann’s time as director of athletics, Kansas Wesleyan student-athletes have experienced significant success. Since the 2013–14 season, KWU student-athletes have won 17 conference championships, have boasted an average team GPA above 3.0 and have had 13 students earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Hermann has over 30 years of experience in collegiate athletics, including serving as the director of athletics at Towson University (MD) and Niagara University (NY). He also represents the KCAC on the NAIA Athletic Directors Association Board and is an active member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). He is also active in the Salina community, serving as a member of the morning AMBUCs and the City of Salina Convention & Visitors Advisory Committee.

Bridget Weiser:

Bridget Weiser, who has served Kansas Wesleyan since 2003, was recently promoted to Vice President for Student Development. The promotion is a testament to the expanding importance of the Student Development Office to the institution under Weiser’s leadership. In addition to her role in Student Development, she serves on the President’s Council and is an adjunct professor for the Sports and Exercise Science Department.

“Kansas Wesleyan is a unique and amazing place with an extremely bright future. It is an honor to be a part of the direction this institution is headed,” Weiser said. “I would like to thank Dr. Thompson for this tremendous opportunity. I am committed to enhancing the experience of our students and to aiding in their growth and development during their time here at KWU.”

Since joining KWU, Weiser has played a key role in establishing a Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas (DVACK) campus advocate position, revitalizing the Campus Ministries program, improving campus security, implementing Title IX awareness programs and successfully restructuring campus housing models. Additionally, she has led the development of the institution’s Career Services and Intramural programs.

Weiser has over 15 years of experience related to student life. She served as graduate assistant for Campus Intramurals and Recreation at Fort Hays State University (KS) prior to joining KWU as director of Student Services and Intramurals. In 2011, she was promoted to executive director of Student Development.

Weiser is active in the Salina community, including serving as a member of the Saline County Domestic Violence Task Force and the Saline County Law Enforcement Advisory Board. She is a graduate of the Salina Police Department’s Advanced Citizen’s Academy and Saline County Emergency Management’s Community Emergency Response Team training. She is also a Red Cross instructor and a REALTOR with SalinaHomes.com.
