The cause of an overnight fire that engulfed three oil tanks is being investigated.
According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, a Salina police officer on patrol spotted a fire burning on the property owned by Johnson Sand Company, 2100 E. Schilling Road.
Rural Fire District 5 arrived on the scene around 1:10am and battled the blaze that destroyed 3 oil tanks owned by Scott’s Well Service of Roxbury.
Lightning from a quick moving thunderstorm has not been ruled out as a possible cause of the fire.
Damage and loss is estimated at $20,000.
