The crowd at senior day at the Graves Family Sports Complex on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon had something to cheer for before the game even started.
To open the pregame festivities, seniors on the Kansas Wesleyan football team lined up, and marched out onto the field with family members. Before all was said and done, though, it became an extra special moment. Devin Rizzo-Foden, a running back from Laguna Niguel, California, planned what turned out to be a life-changing event.
As the senior ceremony concluded, an announcement was made that there was going to be a special presentation. Rizzo-Foden dropped to one knee in front of his girlfriend Regan Jeffery, pulled out a ring, and asked her to marry him. To the delight of the crowd, and the rest of his teammates and coaches, she tearfully said “yes” as he slid the ring on her finger.
Jeffery told KSAL News afterwards that she had no clue that Devin, who she has been together with for the last three years, was planning to propose to her. “It was a total surprise,” she said.
The game itself went just as well for the KWU faithful. The Coyotes defeated the Ottawa Braves 21 – 7, and improved to 9-1 overall. The team travels to Leavenworth next Saturday to battle Saint Mary for a chance at the KCAC championship, and a post season playoff berth.
