Derby Roars Past South to Close Out 2017

Salina South was hoping to ride the offensive wave following the performance against Salina Central.

Derby had other plans.

The Lady Panthers forced 28 turnovers and gave up just eight field goals as they cruised past Salina South 48-25 on Tuesday night.

After making seven threes against Salina Central, the Cougars were ice cold from outside and inside, being limited to just one field goal in the opening quarter. Derby wasn’t much better, only leading 8-2 after the first frame.

Derby took control in the ensuing period, despite not getting a field goal from junior star Kennedy Brown until the 1:42 mark in the second stanza. Derby allowed just two more makes in the quarter, grabbing a solid 22-6 advantage at the half.

Five-star prospect Brown finished with 12 points. Junior Aliyah Myers added 11 points. South junior Jadyn Zamecnik paced the Cougars with six points.

South (1-5, 0-4 AVCTL-I) returns from break with a road trip to Newton on January 5.
