Kansas public schools are one step closer to seeing an increase in state funding.

A plan offered by Republican lawmakers calls for phasing in a 500-million-dollar funding increase over five years.

A House committee advanced the proposal last night.

The Kansas Supreme Court ruled last fall that schools are inadequately funded and they set an April 30th deadline for the legislature to create a new education funding plan.
