Sister Barbara Bader died April 7, 2018 at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, KS. She was 95 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 75 years. She was born in Rhineland, MO on January 13, 1923 to Leo and Pentronella Buecker Bader, the seventh of nine children, and was baptized Aurelia Marie. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on May 9, 1942. On March 18, 1943, Aurelia received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Barbara. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1944 and final vows on August 15, 1947.
Sister Barbara graduated in 1959 from Marymount College, Salina, KS with a B.A. in psychology and education. In 1967 she graduated from Notre Dame University with a M.A. in educational administration. Sister Barbara taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Damar, Oakley, Manhattan, Beloit, KS and in Grand Island, NE. She was principal in Oakley and Manhattan, KS. In 2005 she retired at the Motherhouse in Concordia; moving to Mount Joseph in 2013.
Sister Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers. She is survived by one sister, Nellie McMahon of Giltner, NE. A Bible Vigil Service will be held April 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Mary Savoie as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be April 11 at 1:30 p.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. Tom Ryan and Rev. David Rykwader presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.
