James F. Pugh, 92, of Salina, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018. He was born Sept. 6, 1925, in a dirt home on the banks of the Smoky Hill River, Trego County, which is now under Cedar Bluff dam.
Jim was the son of Floyd and Edna (Sutherland) Pugh. The family moved to Salina in 1929 and owned and operated Maplewood Dairy. Jim graduated from Washington High School in 1943 and joined the Navy soon after graduation.
Jim leased and operated Jim’s Conoco Service Station on the corner of and Ash from 1954 until 1973. He then worked for Royal Tire Co, retiring after 16 years of service. He was an avid collector of Conoco and filling station items, that graced his farm property.
After retirement, Jim and Allene enjoyed traveling extensively in their motor home. Jim farmed on a small scale with the help of his son Scott, and called it his hobby.
Survivors are: wife, Allene Johnson Pugh; daughter, Cheryl Shannon (Joe) of Vider, Texas; son, Scott Pugh (Latda) of Salina; sister-in-law, Janelle Pugh of Whitewright, Texas; sister, Mim Hiesterman (Kieth) of Wichita; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and eleven step great-grandchildren. Each and every one of them loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Patty Jo; two brothers, Charles and Bob; and two sisters, Thelma and Virginia.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Grand Ave. United Methodist Church, Salina, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
