Robert “Bob” Gerdes, 90, Salina, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018. He was born to Lillie and George Gerdes of Amorita, OK on Oct. 6, 1927 and graduated from Amorita High School. Bob joined the United States Navy as did so many young men in those years. He had 11 brothers and sisters; all but his sister, Mary, have preceded him.

Bob married Dorothy Maltbie of Amorita, OK on May 28, 1947. They have been married 71 years. They have 3 children, Cynthia Smith (Lowell), Kansas City, MO; Ronald Gerdes, Houston, TX; Richard Gerdes (Lisa), Salina. Bob and Dorothy have 4 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Bob and Dorothy were Charter Members of Christ the King Lutheran Church and very active there. Bob was an officer and member of the Salina Sunflower Lions Club. Bob’s favorite job, he always said, was working at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
