Diana Marie (Lanning) Shaft, 56, of Salina, passed away Wednesday,
October 24, 2018, at home, surrounded by her children, grandchildren,
and many friends.
Diana was born January 16, 1962, to Donald Ray Lanning and Dixie May
(Bartley) Lanning. She attended school in Salina, graduating from South
High, with the class of 1980. Diana received a Bachelors Degree in
Social Work from Bethany College in Lindsborg Kansas and her Masters
Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
Following college, Diana worked many years for SRS Child Protective
Services. After completing her Masters Degree requirements, Diana became
a school social worker, retiring from USD 305 in 2017.
Diana served on the board of directors of Central Kansas Mental Health
Center and the Smoky Hill Association Of Social Workers. She was honored
to be named Social Worker of the Year and received the lifetime
achievement award from the Smoky Hill Association Of Social Workers. She
served on many other boards and committees over the years.
Diana never met a stranger and saw the good in everyone. She loved being
a Social Worker and did not consider it a job, but more of a calling.
Diana married Gerald D. Shaft August 24, 1981. This union added two sons
from Gerald’s previous marriage. Together, Diana and Gerald had a
daughter, Sarah Elizabeth.
Survivors: husband, Gerald; sons, Travis Jeffrey (Kathryn Brooks) Shaft
and Trenton James (Erin Maili) Shaft; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Shaft;
mother, Dixie May Lanning; brother, David John Lanning; and six
granddaughters, Khendal Lane, Natalie Adair, Brynn Addison, Elin Brooks,
Paige Harper, and Stevie Grace.
A memorial service will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church,
901 E. Neal, Salina, Kansas, on November 2, 2018, at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to either The ALS Association
or Central Kansas Mental Health Center Juvenile Assistance Program.
