Gary Wayne Coleman, 72, passed away on December 23, 2018 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the husband of Marilyn (Markey) Coleman. Gary and Marilyn were united in marriage on August 9, 1969 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. They shared 49 years of marriage together.

Gary was born August 30, 1946 in Holton, Kansas, the son of Marion and Edna Coleman. He graduated from Sterling College and from the University of Kansas Medical School. He completed a family practice residency at Wesley Medical Center and taught for two years at the residency program. He was a Family Physician in Abilene, KS for 34 years. He viewed his work as a vocational calling, an act of service to the community

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, traveling and spending time with his grandkids. He will be remembered for being a Godly man and a good husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the home and his children, Matthew Coleman(Stacy Coleman), Kathleen Pierson (Will Pierson) and Benjamin Miller-Coleman (Valerie Miller-Coleman) and grandchildren, Samuel, Nathaniel, Joseph, Anna, Lucy, Leo, Lawrence, Evie, Emma, Natalie and Andrew.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend John and Reverend Jenny Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home on Friday evening.

Gary’s final resting place will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Sterling College or the First United Methodist Church of Abilene and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
