Donald C. “Don” Anderson

Memorial services for Donald C. “Don” Anderson will be 10:30 am January 5, 2018 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene with Reverend Justin Panzer officiating. Mr. Anderson passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 at the Colmery-O’neil VA Medical Center Sunflower Memory Unit in Topeka.

He was born January 16, 1933 in Oberlin, Kansas the son of Julius and Evelyn (Linn) Anderson. He graduated from Chapman High School and received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Kansas State University.

Don was a Professional Engineer. He was in the international division of JC Heinz traveling all over the world. He also worked for ADM in Salina and relocated to Abilene. He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene serving as a church elder, past president of the Heritage Homes Association, Kiwanis both in Abilene, genealogy researchers, and the Dickinson County Historical Society, He was instrumental in putting the Meade-Rogers Home on the National Register, having brought the house back to its original condition. Don was on the Abilene Zoning Commission. He also enjoyed woodworking and playing the banjo, guitar, harmonica, farming, and traveling.

On August 16, 1958, Don was united in marriage to Edwina “Eddee” Houghton in Abilene. She survives of the home. Don is also survived by his son Eric of Abilene; daughters Cynthia (Myron) Kelso of Valley Spring, California, Jennifer (John) Kok of Rosamond, California; sister Carolyn (Robert) Hossfeld of Emporia, Kansas; Sister-In-Law Donna Anderson of Salina; and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother Myron Anderson, grandson Michael Kelso, and his parents.

Don was laid to rest in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery near Enterprise. Don was the great grandson of Swedish Pioneer Immigrants who settled in Decatur and Dickinson Counties of Kansas.
