Marion G. Goldsmith

Marion G. Goldsmith, 68, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 12:22 a.m., Tuesday, January 8th, 2019 while in the company of family members, at McPherson Hospital .

Marion was born in McPherson on November 16, 1950, a son of Herbert G. and Vera Francis (Dick) Goldsmith.

Marion attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Park School, McPherson Middle School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1972.

Through the years Marion worked for Swick Guth and later retired from Johns Manville, as a fiberizer in 2008 after 30 years.

Marion was a member of American Legion Post 24 and the McPherson Bowling Association. Marion enjoyed telling jokes, volunteering at McPherson Hospital, fishing, watching John Wayne movies, and spending time with his friends and family.

Marion was united in marriage to Rhonda J. Chestnut on October 29, 1977 at McPherson Covenant Church. This young couple established their first home together in McPherson. .

He is survived by his wife Rhonda Goldsmith, of McPherson, Kansas; his siblings Jerry Scharf and his wife Sarah, of Elizabeth Town, North Carolina; Bonnie Harding and her husband Ralph, of McPherson, Kansas; his sister-in-law Beverly Scharf, of McPherson, Kansas; his parent-in-laws, Bob and Jean Chestnut, of McPherson, Kansas; his brother-in-law Scott Chestnut and his wife Hanky, of Marquette, Kansas and his lifetime best friends Don and Deb Reazin, of Lyons, Kansas.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Vicki Capsey and Patsy Dominguez, his brothers, Chuck Bowen, Jim Bowen, Charles Scharf and his sister-in-law, Christine Chestnut New.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas with PastorTom Reazin officiating.

The burial will be held at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas
