A man accused of murdering a Salina woman appears in court.
Appearing via closed-circuit video in front of Judge Patrick Thompson Thursday morning in Saline County District Court, 24-year-old Joel Heil waived his right to a preliminary hearing within ten days. Heil’s attorney Julie Effenbeck needs more time to gather information about the case, including obtaining results from an autopsy report. Saline County Attorney Ellen Mitchell said that results from the autopsy could take 90 to 120 days to receive.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 1st.
Heil is facing charges that include 1st degree murder in connection with the death of 27-year-old Kristin Tyler of Salina. Tyler went missing on April 25th. Her body was discovered May 9th in rural Saline County.
Heil is being held in the Saline County Jail on a $1 million bond.
