The Sacred Heart girls basketball team came in to Tuesday night’s home game without their top scorer.
Ally Cochran, the junior guard averaging 13 PPG, is out for the rest of the year with an injury. However, the Knights overcame a slow start to challenge Beloit. But, Beloit held on for a 46-44 win.
The Trojans got up 18-4 right off the bat. Led by Shea Larson from inside, the Knights found themselves behind big, quick. Beloit would lead 19-9 after one. However, Sacred Heart held Beloit to just three points in the second quarter, still trailed 22-16 at halftime.
Sacred Heart trailed 39-31 going in to the final quarter, when Hannah Goetz caught fire for the Knights. The junior made two threes and big transition buckets to bring the Knights all the way back to tie the game at 44-44 with 1:06 to go.
Beloit then held the ball for nearly a full minute before Trojan coach, Shauna Remus called a timeout to set up a play. A Breezy Schroeder lay-in with 7.8 seconds to go put Beloit ahead.
Sacred Heart called a timeout with 3.5 seconds remaining to draw up one last shot. However, a 3-point shot by Amber Palen fell short to drop the Knights to .500 on the season and in league play.
Beloit (12-6, 8-3 NCAA) swept the season series with Sacred Heart. Two Trojans scored 10 points, each in Larson and Jessica Meier.
Sacred Heart (9-9, 5-5 NCAA) has dropped their last six of seven games. Goetz led the way with 16 points.
Sacred Heart hosts Republic County next.

Beloit 62, SACRED HEART BOYS 40
Sacred Heart’s grip on the North Central Activities Association officially ended on Tuesday night as Beloit won its 11th league game to win the league out-right.
The game was close early on with Beloit leading 12-10 after the first quarter. However, a 6-0 run to end the first half put the Trojans ahead 28-20 at halftime.
Sacred Heart played evenly in the third, but still trailed 40-33 at the end of the quarter. Beloit though, held Sacred Heart to just seven points in the final quarter to blow out the Knights.
Beloit (17-1, 11-0 NCAA) won the league title out-right with the win. Hudson Smith and Carson Cox led the way for Beloit with 11 and 10, each.
Sacred Heart (13-5, 8-2 NCAA) was swept by Beloit this season. Charlie Skidmore led the way with 21 points.
