A Salina educator has been honored.
According to USD 305, Oakdale Elementary Library Media Specialist Kay Barriger has been named the 2018-2019 Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the local Smoky Valley Chapter of Kansas Society of Professional Engineers . As the chapter award winner, Barriger advances to the state award competition which will be presented in June at the KSPE Annual Conference in Wichita.
The Outstanding Teacher of the Year award is presented to an individual that goes beyond the regular classroom curriculum and challenges and expands the students’ exposure to math and/or science.
Barriger has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from St. Mary of the Plains College, a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Friends University and a master’s degree in educational technology from Pittsburg State University. She has 28 years experience and has an endorsement in English as a second language. She is a member of the Kansas Association of School Librarians and KNEA.
