A new display at Rolling Hills Zoo will take you back in time, and into the future.  In celebration of its 20th anniversary, a new gallery show opens Saturday in the Earl Bane Gallery.

“Rolling Hills Zoo: Celebrating 20 Years!” chronicles the timeline of how the zoo began, depicting founder  Charlie Walker’s dream from concept to reality. There is a long timeline of notable dates and events, beginning in the 1980s and ending today. Of course there are multiple photos as well.

Highlights of the gallery show include:

• The Main Barn: Home to the largest herd of Belgian horses in the U.S.
• Prairie to Park: Transforming the prairie into a zoological park
• Building a world-class Wildlife Museum
• Zoo Special Guests
• The Iconic Animals of Rolling Hills Zoo

• Children’s Exploration Park
•  Build a Zoo Exhibit
•  Zoo Animal Trivia

The gallery includes a children’s area, with life size cutouts of some of the iconic zoo animals, past and present. Favorites like Robbie the Orangutan, rare Addax twins Luke and Leia, and baby Giraffe Jo Jo are among the many featured.

Guests are invited to be part of the display by leaving remarks on a memory wall. Guests are also invited to share any favorite photos of zoo experiences by emailing them to [email protected].  Selected photos will be displayed in the gallery and sued in a “remember when” video.

The gallery also features a documentary film where you can hear the stories of those who were there as they built a zoo and wildlife museum.
