A car verses train accident leaves a Salina man with minor injuries and charges of DUI.
According to Police Captain Mike Sweeney, a 2007 PT Cruiser was eastbound on North Street when it collided with a Union Pacific train near the intersection of North and 3rd Street at about 10:25pm on Thursday evening.
Police say the driver, 53-year-old Darryl Tiller of Salina was cited for DUI and an open container of beer after an electric/diesel locomotive hit the vehicle in the driver side door and pushed it off the track into a fire hydrant.
The train operator told police he blew the horn and was traveling at a slow speed when the engine hit the PT Cruiser, which was heavily damaged.
Tiller was treated at Salina Regional Health Center for scratches on his face.
