Heavy Rain Causes Flooding Issues

Severe thunderstorms rolling through Central Kansas Saturday night produced strong wind, dropped hail, and heavy rain.

Initially the biggest concern was damaging wind. Wind up to 80-miles-per-hour was clocked in Rice County.

The storms turned into more of a rain event, with heavy rain causing flooding in some areas. Radar indicated that 1 – 3 inches of rain fell.

Flooding was reported in Marquette, Lindsborg, and Assaria.

Flooding impacted Interstate 135, in the area of milepost 70 near the Saline / McPherson County line.  The southbound lanes were closed briefly because of the water, and some accidents in the area.

Flood warning are in effect for multiple areas in Central Kansas through early Sunday morning.
