Mike Heizer, 80, of Salina, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019. He was born March 22, 1939, in the Salina area. Mike started working at age 14 as a paper carrier for the Salina Journal. He also worked at the Busy Bee Café. Mike was hired by Lee Haworth Construction Company when he was 16 years old. He became a master carpenter and retired from there, after more than 50 years of service.
Mike married Janice Hendrickson on April 27, 1984. They lived in Bennington and Salina. Mike enjoyed being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Janice (Hendrickson) Heizer; daughter, Jenny Llorett, of Texas; sister, Betty White, of Salina; stepdaughter and husband, Cynde and Steve Cleveland, of Bennington; stepson, Richard Stanley, of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Trisha Cleveland, Missy and Kenny Baccus, Stephanie and Fred Kidd, and Kimberly and Jason Stroede; and great-grandchildren, Allen Cleveland, Avery Kidd, Keyon Baccus and Jaxson Kidd.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Byington; father, Harold Heizer; grandparents, Dow and Grace Lemmons; brother, Eddie Byington; and son, Jerry Bayliff.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 22, at Spillman Cemetery, southwest of Ash Grove, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a favorite charity, and to remember Mike with a smile.
