Antoinette M. (Annie) Oakley

Antoinette M. (Annie) Oakley, age 90, went to our Divine God on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Mt. Joseph Senior Village, Concordia, KS. She was born on Aug. 6, 1929 in New York City, New York to Giovanni & Michelina (Spizzico) Tummolo.

She graduated Evander Child High School in the Bronx, NYC and later attended Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in NYC. She married William F. Oakley II on Aug. 5, 1950 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in the Bronx, NYC. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1987. Annie was first generation Italian as her parents came over from Lavello, Italy to Ellis Island NYC in 1920, on a refitted World War I warship.

Like all first generation Italians, Annie’s life revolved around the family and children as a homemaker and nurturing mother. Everything in an Italian family revolves around the kitchen and cooking and all the children were taught to cook those treasures! She is survived by her daughters, Sr. Christina Brodie CSJ, Concordia & Diana Francesca Levett, Jensen Beach, FL; son, William F. Oakley III (Julie Reed Oakley), Brookfield, CT; sister, Anna Marie DeGraphenreed, White Plains, NY & grandchildren, Christopher Brodie, Orlando, FL, Ashleigh Oakley, Brooklyn, NY & Alexandra Oakley, Brookfield, CT.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; daughter, Virginia Anne Oakley & brothers, Frank & Gene Tummolo.

The family selected cremation. The right of Christian Burial Mass will be concelebrated by Fr. Barry Brinkman and Fr. David Metz at the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel, Concordia, on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 11am. Burial of the cremains will follow in the Spring 2020 at the Nazareth Cemetery, Concordia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Meadowlark Hospice or the Sisters of St. Joseph Concordia Kansas, in care of the funeral home.
