Gene Hayden Reinecker, 92, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 3:40 a.m., Tuesday, October 29th 2019 while in the company of family members, at Pine Village, Moundridge.

Gene was born in rural Quinter, Kansas on January 29, 1927, a son of Howard L. and Verna Parthena (Dungan) Reinecker.

Gene attended Quinter Elementary School, Quinter, Kansas, Washington Grade School, McPherson Junior High School, McPherson High School and McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. He also attended Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas.

He was a member of Church of the Brethren McPherson.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Through the years Gene worked as a teacher for two years at Lincolnville, Kansas, six years at Windom Kansas and retired from USD 418, McPherson, Kansas in 1991.

Gene was a member of KPERS, American Legion Post 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and the Wendy’s Coffee group.

Gene enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, scouts, spending time with his friends and family.

Gene H. Reinecker was united in marriage to Joni Lee Edwards on May 3, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of six children, four daughters and two sons, Cynthia, Pam, Debra, Richard, Michael and Janee’.

He is survived by his children, Pamela Washburn and her husband Bill, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Debra Orth and her husband David, of McPherson, Kansas, Richard Reinecker, of Wichita, Kansas and Janee’ Doll, of Richfield, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joni; his children, Cynthia and Mike Reinecker; a brothers Russell and Keith Reinecker; a grandson Jason Orth.

A Visitation will be held Monday, November 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Brethren, McPherson, Kansas.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Brethren, McPherson, Kansas, with Reverend Chris Whitacre officiating.

Burial will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas with Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 24 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, both of McPherson.
