Ray Harper, 93, Concordia, KS, died peacefully in his home, Sunday, December 22, 2019, surrounded by his family.
He was born November 3, 1926 in Phillipsburg, KS to Walter and Ruby (Smith) Harper. He married the love of his life Monty, August 24, 1952. In the 56 years they were married, they raised daughters Kim and Dia, with Ray taking morning duty when the girls were little.
He loved golf, KU sports, singing in the choir, zebra mochas at Jitters, and riding his scooter while walking his little brown dog.
He served in the Army Air Corp from 1944 to 1945, and was fortunate to take advantage of the GI Bill to attend KU where he received his Bachelors in Pharmacy in 1951.
He proudly retained his pharmacy license for 50 years. He was the pharmacist at Hillside Pharmacy for 34 years. He retired from Funk Pharmacy in 2009.
He will be remembered for his laughter, kindness, wisdom, and gentleness.
Survivors include sister, Regie Fruit and husband Eddie, Gothenburg, NE; two daughters, Kim Alderson and husband Blair, Concordia, and Dia Harper and husband Pete Fuentes, Sachse, TX; grandson, Ryan Alderson, Concordia; niece, Nikki Brabeck, Concordia; spoiled dog, Sunny Friday.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Monty; brother, Keith Harper; two sisters, Pauline Robertson and Norma Buchner; grandson Blake Alderson.
Cremation is planned. A celebration life will take place after the holidays, at 2:00 pm, Saturday, Jan 4 at the First United Methodist Church in Concordia. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. in the parlor prior to the service. We will gather for a reception in the fellowship hall immediately after.
