Richard Kent “Rick” Johnson, 60, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:32 a.m., Sunday, January 26th, 2020 while in the company of family members, at McPherson Hospital.
Richard was born in Oxnard, California on April 28, 1959, the son of John Richard and Harriet Joan (Larson) Johnson. He was baptized at Elim Lutheran Church, Marquette, Kansas and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas.
Rick attended McPherson grade schools and graduated from McPherson High School in 1977. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1982 from the University of Kansas.
Rick enjoyed working for N.C.R.A./C.H.S for 37 years and was promoted to Process Engineer and Development Manager. Rick was very dedicated to his career.
Rick was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at KU and Ducks Unlimited.
Rick loved spending time at Kanopolis Lake fishing and hunting with friends and family, especially enjoying water sports with his son, Josh on their Sea-Doos. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing with his father and relatives at Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas and snow skiing in Colorado with friends and family.
Richard K. “Rick” Johnson was united in marriage to Patty Duncan on September 3, 1987 at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of a son, Joshua.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years Patty Johnson, of McPherson, Kansas; his son, Joshua Johnson, of McPherson; his father, Dr. J. Richard “Dick” Johnson; his siblings, Kathryn Hawkinson and her husband Griff, of McPherson, Kristin Schmidt and her husband George, of McPherson and Kimberly Fritzie, of Stilwell, Kansas; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Johnson.
A closed casket visitation will be held Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.
A private family graveside service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Cemetery, Marquette, Kansas.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at the Elim Lutheran Church, Marquette, Kansas with Pastors Amy Pavlovich and Tim Leaf officiating.
