Vernice Lee Etta Horn, 89, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 6:55 a.m., Saturday, February 29th, 2020 peacefully at Angel Arms.
Vernice was born in Marquette, Kansas on January 28, 1931, a daughter of Conrad and Emma (Swanson) Blomberg.
Vernice attended Riverside Elementary School and graduated from Marquette High School Marquette, Kansas in 1949. She then attended Brown Mackie Business School, Salina, Kansas.
She was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church.
Through the years Vernice worked as a bookkeeper and insurance agent for many companies. Her last 18 years she worked for Shelter Insurance, McPherson, Kansas as a Insurance Office Assistant until her retirement.
Vernice was a member of the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary
Vernice enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling by car or tour bus, visiting family and loved playing with her great-grandchildren.
Vernice was united in marriage to Earl Lester “Les” Horn on April 26, 1952 at Pocahontas, Arkansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson, Kansas on Barber Street. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, a daughter and a son, Debra and Bradley. In 1981 the family moved to Wichita, Kansas until 1993, when they moved back to McPherson. Les died on February 17, 2019..
She is survived by her son, Bradley Horn, of Easton, PA; her sister, Elna Haubold, of Marquette, Kansas.
She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Jessica Lauer(Adam), Amanda Bragg(Mike), Ryan Unruh(Tabatha), Josh Befort, and Tana Befort. her 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor Lauer, Brooke Lauer, Bailee Horn, A.J. Lauer, Kelsi Bragg, Taylen Wall, Zayda Unruh, Ryder nruh, Ezmae Unruh and Rebel Unruh.
Vernice was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Debra Beck; her husband, Les Horn; her sisters, Ruby Blomberg, Ethel Boggs, Ilene Andrews and Mildred Nelson and her brother, Leslie Blomberg.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel.
Burial will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Crestwood Memorial Park Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at New Gottland Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas, with Pastor Laura Smith officiating.
