Gail W. Aills, 79, of Salina, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020. He was born March 30, 1940, in Salina. On Feb. 14, 1959, he married Jo Ann Robb at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina.
Gail served eight years in the U.S. Air Force followed by 25 years as a firefighter for the Salina Fire Department, retiring as division chief. He worked the next 13 years as Saline County Emergency Management Director, retiring in 2003. Gail enjoyed traveling, woodworking, yardwork, bluegrass music and watching football and basketball.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jo Ann; children, Theresa Howard (Larry), Mark Aills, Denise Metzger (David) and Patti Heiman (Ted); brother, Harry Searle; brother-in-law, Charles Latham; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Edna (Aills) Searle, and sister, Bonnie Latham.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. A private inurnment will take place at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Salina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Red Cross or Catholic Charities, in care of Ryan Mortuary.
