Gerhard Harold Lamfers, 92 passed away Wednesday April 29, 2020. Harold was born April 11, 1928 in Wimbledon, ND to parents Jacobus and Ethel Lamfers, Harold grew up in Eagle Grove, IA where he met his future wife, Ruth Anderson, before entering the Navy (1946-48). Upon return, Harold attended Iowa State University earning his B.S. in Civil Engineering (’53). He and Ruth married in November ’51. After graduation they moved to Kansas City, MO, later Salina, KS, where they enjoyed raising their children, Jeff, Debra, and Doug. Harold became a partner in the engineering firm Bucher & Willis. True to his calling, he loved to design and build. He worked with son, Doug, to build a television. In addition to his love of mathematics, he also used his carpentry skills improving the family home and enjoyed sharing his knowledge. He loved to bowl and fish, including fishing trips to Alaska with brother Ray and Ontario, Canada with his sons and grandson. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
In late 2015, Harold moved to Presbyterian Manor. His aides enjoyed his singing, whistling, and sense of humor. He often shared that he felt he had a blessed life and always saw the glass as ‘half full.’ He passed away surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters Eunice Currier and Betty Maude and brother Jake Lamfers. He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 68 years; three children; brother Raymond Lamfers; sister Patricia Dutton; two daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; two grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be announced in the coming months. His final resting place will be Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion, IA.
