Battery maker Exide Technologies is filing for bankruptcy.
Exide tells KSAL News they have entered into voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings to facilitate a value-maximizing sale of the North America business, which enables them to continue to operate the business as usual.
During this time, there will be no interruptions of service. They are honoring all contracts and agreements with customers, and they remain “focused on delivering solutions that meet customers’ complex energy storage needs.”
The company is one of the largest employers in Salina. Exide Technologies’ Salina transportation battery manufacturing plant employs more than 850 employees and has been in operation since 1975. The plant manufactures batteries for automotive, truck, marine and lawn and garden applications.
Headquartered in Milton, Georgia, Exide operates in 80 countries with more than 8,000 employees.
