John Edward Gilbert Sr., 80, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, May 27th, 2020.
John was born in Beaumont, Texas on April 1, 1940, a son of the late Pinky (Williams) and James Gilbert.
He had experience in welding and refrigeration. He was a cowboy and loved horses, rode in parades, and took all the kids for buggy rides.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Gilbert, of the home; three daughters, Evelyn Kency, of Salina, Sharmaine Poole, of Wichita, Jonnie Arnold, (Robert), of Phoenix, Arizona; three sons, John Gilbert Jr., (Quecia), of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shaun Gilbert, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Telly Gilbert, of Lawrence; sisters Ruby Chaison, of Beaumont, Texas, Sister Mary Magdala Gilbert, of Baltimore, Maryland, and Lillie Davis, of St. Louis, Missouri. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Visitation will be Friday, June 5, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Carlson – Geisendorf Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am, at the funeral home, with Pastor Eric Malone officiating.
Burial will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.
