Cecil Dean Palmer, 84, passed away August 7, 2020 in Ellis, KS.
He was born the youngest of three sons at the family home on May 27, 1936 in rural Osceola, IA, to Ralph and Esther (Foland) Palmer.
Cecil attended Clarke County Iowa country school and graduated from Osceola High School in 1954. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy.
Following graduation, he served as a high school science teacher in Russell, Iowa where he met his wife, Marilyn (Ford). He also served six years in the US Army with a combination of Active Duty and reserve time upon graduation. Shortly after, he began his career with the US Soil Conservation Service as a Soil Scientist, where he stayed until retirement. During his time with the USCS, he lived and worked in Fort Dodge, IA, Norton, KS, Stockton, KS, Hiawatha, KS, and Salina, KS.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn, and one brother, Cleo Palmer.
Cecil’s surviving family include his daughter, Melissa Robb of Ellis, KS; his son, Dennis Palmer (Adrina), Little Elm, TX; and youngest daughter, Deborah Palmer, Salina, KS. His six grandchildren are Kerry, Kevin, and Kelly Robb and Patrick, Gabrielle, and Alexis Palmer; one great-grandson, Ashur Robb; his brother, Carl Palmer, Port Byron, Ill; and extended family Abel and Teresa Perez, Salina, KS.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 10th at Ryan Mortuary, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday August 11th and 10-12 noon Wednesday August 12, 2020 at Fielding Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday August 12th in Russell Cemetery, Russell, IA.
