Leon Harold Peterson, 81, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Monday, October 19th, 2020 suddenly at his residence.
Leon was born in rural Falun, KS on July 4, 1939, a son of Arthur Rudolph and Pearl Cecelia (Rupert) Peterson.
Leon attended White Rose and Falun grade schools, Falun, Kansas and graduated from Lindsborg High School, Lindsborg, Kansas in 1957.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a proud veteran.
Through the years Leon was a lifelong farmer and also worked for Certainteed as a supervisor, Tractor Supply as a second key person and Country General as a clerk all in McPherson.
Leon was confirmed and a lifetime member of the Freemont Lutheran Church and presently served on the church council, American Legion Post 24, McPherson Elk’s #502 and was a chairman of Trustees, all in McPherson.
Leon enjoyed his farm, cattle, drinking coffee with his good friend Dean Johnson, spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his siblings, Eugene E. Peterson and his wife Mary Jean, of Lindsborg, Kansas, Bobby E. Peterson, of Lindsborg, Kansas, James R. Peterson and his wife Bernice, of Lindsborg, Kansas, Virginia L. Patrick, of McPherson, Kansas and Carol A. Peterson, of McPherson, Kansas, many nieces and nephews; other relatives and host of friends.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leland A. and Delbert F. Peterson and his sister, Leora P. Peterson.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Freemount Lutheran Cemetery, Lindsborg, Kansas with Reverend Arden Gray officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 24 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715. Family request wearing a mask.
