Dwight William Corbett passed away December 4, 2020 at the age of 88. Dwight was born to Floyd and Zola Corbett at the family’s home in rural Burr Oak, Kansas. Dwight continued to live and work on the family farm until he graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1950.
He met the future Mary L. Corbett and moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska in late 1950. Shortly after the move Dwight received a letter from the U.S. Military that stated, “Your friends and neighbors have selected you to serve your country.” He claimed after they selected him for the draft, he no longer had any friends or neighbors! Dwight was one of very few soldiers that could type well, so he was selected for an office job. Not long after boot camp he was stationed in Germany where he stayed until his duty to our country was done.
Dwight and Mary moved to Salina in 1953 where he took a job at a service station. He also worked for Nelson Truck Line and Schwan’s Sales in the truck shop when he retired after 40+ years of employment.
Dwight is survived by his children, Terry Corbett, Kevin Corbett and Dineel Grant, 4 grandchildren, Sean Corbett, Branden Corbett, Erin Bennett and Keri Corbett, several great grandchildren and his brother Edwin Corbett.
Dwight was proceeded in death by his parents, wife Mary, brother Maurice Corbett, and sister Faye Killough.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
