Virginia “Virgie” Louise Neiswender, 73, of Salina, passed away March 20, 2021. She was born June 7, 1947, oldest daughter of the late Rosa (Rand) and Floyd Close.
Virgie grew up on a rural farm south of Abilene and attended Solomon schools K-12. She was a skilled fast-pitch softball player and enjoyed bowling. She was known for working local auctions in Salina.
She retired from Westinghouse (Philips Lighting) after 43 years.
Virgie knew no stranger and was always making new friends. She was always ready to help any person or animal in need.
Survivors include her life partner, Judy Klanke; sisters, Jean Close Smith and husband (Don Reed) and Connie (Rodney) Wolf; sister-in-law, Farrell Rand; brother-in-law, Mark Bunting; five nieces, Toni, Salley, Michelle, Heather, and Julie; and two nephews, Bradley and Tyler; cousin, Edwin (Marlene) Duran, and her beloved fur babies, Missy, Noah, Smokey, Goldie, Simon, Ink and Sylvester.
She is preceded in death by brothers, Leland Rand and Floyd Jr. “Sonny” Close; sister, Charlotte Close Bunting; and niece, Diana Lynn Smith Edwards.
Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m., June 7, 2021 at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina.
Memorials may be made to St. Labre Indian School or C.A.R.E. (Colorado Animal Rescue Express) sent in care of the funeral home.
